Which Sling is Right for Me?
Selecting which sling to use for carrying your child is a highly personal decision. The information on this page is provided to help you make the right choice for your circumstances. If you have any further questions please contact us and we will do our best to help you make the right decision.
We currently stock Ring Slings, Wraps, Asian Style Carriers (Mei Tais and Podaegis) and Soft Structured Carriers.
Wraps
Wraps are among the most versatile carriers. They are generally made from either stretchy or woven material. Stretchy wraps are especially good for newborns and young babies, as the parent or caregiver can take the baby in and out of the carrier throughout the day without untying the wrap. Most parents find the support of a woven wrap (sometimes called a German style wrap or GSW) more comfortable for older babies and toddlers - though woven wraps can also be used from birth. Wraps come in a range of sizes and can be tied in various ways to enable you to carry your child on your front, back or hip. Mama Natura stocks Hoppedizand Kari Me stretchy wraps; and woven wraps from Vatanai, Hoppediz and Didymos.
You can tie the wrap in many different ways. Below you will find links to video's on how to wrap.
FWCC - Front Wrap Cross Carry
BWCC - Back Wrap Cross Carry
FCC - Front Cross Carry
Ruck - Rucksack Back Carry
Kangaroo front carry
These are just some of the carries you can do with your wrap. If you would like to learn more or improve your tying skills of those mentioned above. Please check out the Natural Mamas Forum for their Carry of The Week threads.
Asian Style Carriers
There are many different Asian style carriers. We currently only stock mei tais but hope to add podaegis to our inventory again soon. Mei tais are based on Chinese carriers. They have shoulder and waist straps and a body panel that is often decorative. The straps are tied so they are easily adjustable to comfortably fit different wearers. They can be used from birth through to toddlerhood, and are most often used to carry your baby on your front or back (though they can be used as a hip carrier as well). Podaegis are Korean-inspired carriers which have one long strap and a blanket. Whilst podaegis can be used from birth, they are particularly convenient for back carries with an older baby (from around 9 months) or toddler. We stock Mei Tais from Kozy, Joey Slings, Napsack Baby and Bondolino.
Soft Structured Carriers
Soft structured carriers are a modern variant of the mei tai. Both waist and shoulder straps fasten with to the body of the carrier with buckles, so they are easy to learn to use and their short straps make them very convenient when you are out with your child. They are generally adjustable to accommodate different sized wearer, and they can be used with your child from around three months of age (or when your child can support their own head) through to toddlerhood. We stock soft structured carriers by the UK brand Connecta. We will soon have the new UK brand Rose and Rebellion in stock soon.
Safety
When using any carrier your child's safety is your responsibility. Slings are a safe and secure way to carry your baby but as with all baby equipment it is important that you follow instructions and safety precautions. Every carrier purchased from Mama Natura will come with instructions detailing how to use it correctly and safely. Please ensure you read all instructions before trying the carrier. If you are new to babywearing, it is advisable to practice with a doll or soft toy to gain confidence before using a carrier with your baby. If you nned further guidance, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will help as best we can.
